Kahil Winery 2009 Malbec

Kahil Winery 2009 Malbec

In terms of tradition, Colorado is lacking. Its wine industry is about three decades old, which pails in comparison to more established regions such as Bordeaux that count age in centuries.

Which is why we’ve been enamored with labels that buck the trend of the old guard of European wines. Colorado is new and different. It’s labels should be, too. This starts with a winery name and continues all the way to design.

One of Colorado’s newcomers nailed this with its first ever bottle. Kahil Winery, named after a famous fly used in the sporting world, takes Colorado’s outdoor heritage (which is unique in Colorado wine) and packages it onto a sharp label consisting of little more than the fly its named after.

The red lettering on an off-white background is simple and modern and makes you want to grab the 2009 Malbec off the shelf and drink it – or  gift it to the avid fly fisherman in your life.
