Alfred Eames Cellars 2009 Pinot Noir

Alfred Eames Cellars

Alfred Eames Cellars 2009 Estate Pinot Noir

By Jacob Harkins | Colorado Wino

The 2009 Pinot Noir from Alfred Eames Cellars represents the first time I have been able to taste one style from one Colorado producer over the course of three vintages. The 2008 was delicate but bold with minerals matching the fruits. The 2006 followed a similiar path, albeit it’s drinking much finer with the extra two years in bottle.

The 2009 is a somewhat drastic turn. It’s richer and more concentrated. Plums and figs blow in with a rich woody glove on the nose that makes you long for a cold winter night. In the mouth, it’s warm with a toasty fruitiness that just plays out bigger than most Pinots. That’s not a knock. It’s just a fact that these Pinots are as different as fruit and dessert wines.

While being a bit more jammy than its predeccors, the acid structure in this offering falls in line with the way Eames likes to make wines: Those that pair well with dinner each night.

Who should drink this wine: Fans of California Pinot.
